It’s finally here. I write this on the eve of the start of the 2009-2010 college hockey season. The women’s hockey team opens up their year tomorrow night at 7, as they will host Vaughn at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. They play again Saturday at 2 hosting Guelph. Both Games will be broadcast on erieradio.com, with myself and John Baranowski there to bring you all the action. The Games are Friday and Saturday at 7 and 2 respectively. The Mercyhurst Football team came up with a huge win over IUP, the number 19 team in the country last saturday. The Lakers got the lead early in the third with the highlight of the day, an 82 yard touchdown bomb from Joe Laffey to Max Khuri. They did not look back holding off IUP’s late fourth quarter charge. A stategy call to take a safety in exchange for field position proved to be a winning decision as the Laker D stepped up on the last drive holding off IUP and winning the game. Final score 20-16. Lakers Travel to lock haven this saturday for a 1 oclock contest.

Mercyhurst football is now 3 games into the year, playing their toughest games of the season last week (#5 Bloomsburg) and then this saturday (#19 IUP). The Lakers took a tough loss at home to the #5 team in the country in DII, losing 17-7 at tullio field to Bloomsburg. The team did have some positives, scoring it’s first points ever against the huskies (which is misleading because they played them for the first time last year, losing 24-0). The team is now gearing up for IUP, a team they lost 49-7 to last season. They will be hosting the #19 team at Tullio Field, Game time is 1:00, online broadcast featuring Tyler Frey and John Baranowski will begin at 12:55 on Erieradio.com.
